The Finishing Touch – International Etiquette and Social Graces

What does “finishing” mean?

Savoir-faire is the ability to say and do the right things in any social situation. Savoir-vivre means familiarity with the rules and customs of a polite society. In the past, ladies of the upper class European and American society attended finishing school, also called charm school that taught them social graces and etiquette as a preparation for entry into society. Today, finishing school is becoming ever more exclusive, reserved for the selected few due its high price standard.

Why attend our online finishing class?

Our online finishing class encompasses a range of topics including dining etiquette, the art of traditional English afternoon tea, how to host the perfect dinner party, gifting etiquette, various aspects of social graces, and personal image management. It is brought by Dr Rayne Kee based on the curriculum of traditional European finishing schools with an international and up to date context. The knowledge you will learn can have a huge impact in your social and professional lives. It prepares people to become more polished, cultured, graceful and confident!

Who is the teacher?

Dr. Rayne Kee is the founder of Art of Living Institute, Asia’s leading online finishing school that aims to empower people with the knowledge of international etiquette and social graces to build social ease and confidence. With a psychology background and a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from UCL, she has developed and adopts a philosophical view of life and happiness. Instead of pursuing happiness that solely comes from achievements in the future, she understands that life is unpredictable, and true happiness comes from having every present moment well lived. She attended various finishing schools and courses during her 8 years of living and studying in London and found the life skills she learnt immensely valuable and life-changing. Dr. Rayne Kee has been actively researching and creating etiquette courses and has been on various talks in local schools and universities such as NUS, SMU, Temasek Polytechnic, and etc. She also has a portfolio of private clients for etiquette training.

How to learn?

Learning can be done at the comfort of your own home, at your own pace. All the video lessons will be made available immediately after payment and registration. You will be able to revisit the course as many times as you like for a period of one year. Internet connection is required for watching the lessons.

We recommend you to watch one lesson a day which includes a list of sub-lessons. For example, lesson Nine (Personal Image Management Part II) includes a list of sub-lessons: Poise and Deportment, Body Language, Facial Expression, Voice and Elocution, and Social Media Management. Practice what you have learnt until it becomes a habit and then move on to the next lesson. First we form habits, then they form us.

Key Lessons Introduction

Dining Etiquette

Dining Etiquette is perhaps the most important lesson in etiquette education. There is a saying that nothing is as revealing about a person as table manners. This class includes every knowledge and detail about European dining etiquette, from what to do when you enter a restaurant, after sitting down, how to place your napkin, how to use the napkin, general rules that no one will tell you, place setting, how to use the utensils, the silent service code, how to have challenging food, drinking, and lastly, a demonstration on how to fold an elegant napkin.

Personal Image

There is a saying that you should always put your best self forward. Why? On one hand, how you look influences how you feel about yourself. On the other hand, it influences how others see and treat you which indirectly affects your experience of the world. For example, studies have shown that people take less than a second to form a first impression of someone based on how he or she looks. This course includes a comprehensive list of lessons such as personal grooming, poise and deportment, body language, facial expression, voice and elocution, social media management, and the art of elegant dressing including general rules of elegant dressing as well as what to wear for occasions.

Social Graces

Social Graces covers a range of topics that help people to navigate through complex social situations with ease and confidence. It’s about being empowered with the knowledge of knowing what to do or say in any social situations. The topics include polite introduction, how to make an impression when doing handshake, social kissing, the use of first and last names, name card etiquette, how to make an impression entering and leaving a party, conversation do’s and don’t, what to do when unexpected things happen and etc.

  • It’s a really good course. It has changed me to become a more understanding and tolerant person. My favorite part is when Dr Rayne talks about the subtle social skills that can help people to become more confident in social interactions. I also love the part about the proper way of having afternoon tea. There was so much I didn’t know but now I know. Thank you!

  • Every bit of knowledge is a help, and a lot of these points I never even thought about. Very helpful information but may be the delivery can be made more lively with more demonstration videos. Great course regardless! I look forward to your new courses Dr Rayne!

  • I can’t describe how amazing and life changing this course is! I was skeptical at first, but now I wish I’ve learnt this earlier! Dr Rayne looks young but she knows her stuff. The knowledge she shared is something that you will not get from anywhere else, not from parents or school. I wish there are more demonstration videos. Overall, I think every young woman should equip themselves with the knowledge from this course.

  • Great course, learned a lot from Dr Rayne Kee! Especially loved her stories and anecdotes that’s engaging and making her points easy to remember. I took away many points from her course which I have started applying in my daily life. Thank you Dr Rayne Kee!
